It was just your average fall day, leaves were falling from
the trees, the wind biting at your cheeks and clouds covering up the sun.
Marit, Ariana, and Britt were going to the UWSP library to meet Stevie and get
their English homework done. When they arrived there was not a soul in the
library. The trio looked around at the front desk until they came upon a note
which read “Wanna play a game? I have your friend Stevie and if you ever want
to see him again you have to find him, but trust me he won’t be easy to find. Good
luck.”
The 3 girls gasped in shock. Who would
take their friend Stevie and how would they find him? When they turned the note
over there was more writing. It was a clue! The clue read “On the first floor
there are many encyclopedias, find the dog encyclopedia and tell me what an English
pointer is for your next clue” How would they be able to navigate the
encyclopedias there’s like a million! Wait we can use the call numbers and find
the book were looking for! When they found the book they found the letter E and
another clue on the back. The second clue said “A shark in the library? That’s odd
where would that be?” The girls had been in the library many times because they
liked to study and read so they already knew about the natural history museum
in the library that had a shark right at the entrance. They found the shark and
found the letter H with the third clue. It said “Extra Extra read all about it
the second floor has the current issue of the newspaper and were gonna shout
it!” The girls quickly scurried up the stairs to the current issue of the newspaper
in the periodicals. The letter in the newspaper was C with the next clue
reading “do you like music? Me too find me listening to some tunes” The girls
knew that meant he was listening to CDs on the 3
Rd floor. They ran
up the stairs and found a mess of CDs on the floor, the letter V, and their
next clue which read “Wow you girls are really smart. The next place you will run
to is the 4
th floor but good luck reading the number range PN 2287
C5!” The girls laughed and remembered how they used the Reading Call numbers systems
like they did with the encyclopedias. When they easily found the book they opened
it and a limp piece of paper floated to the ground with the letter A and the 6
th
clue on it. “I love animals and zoos, if only there was a section on the 5
th
floor that could inform me more about zoology” The girls were tired at this
point and thought let’s take the elevator up one floor. When they arrived on
the 5
th floor they walked past the archives and the computer stations
to see some bright green shelves. Unfortunately, there were endless rows of
green shelves… How would they ever find the zoology section with hundreds of
green shelves??? They walked for what felt like hours until they heard a yelp
from the corner from Ariana who had found the zoology section. They looked in
all the books until they found a page with the letter R written in red marker
and a note in the margins of the book. The 7
Th clue said “Congratulations
you’re on to the last clue. The government has many documents called Sudocs
located on the 6
th floor. What would the Sudocs be for the Smithsonian?”
the girls jumped with joy as they realized they just had to go up the 6
th
floor and read the Sudocs poster which has all the U.S. publications on it. When
they found the poster they saw the letters S and I circled with a noted taped
up saying “Good work, Now I hope you’ve been keeping track of the letters
because that’s where you’ll find your friend, put them together and find the
location of Stevie.” E, H, C, V, A, R, S, I?? What could that possibly mean? The
girls sat around for nearly half an hour until they all gasped in realization “THE
ARCHIVES!!!!!!” They ran down the stairs to the 5
th floor and threw
open the door to see who kidnapped their dear friend. They were confused when
they opened the door and saw Stevie sitting there by himself laughing and
muttering to himself “Those girls will never figure this out and I will get out
of my part of the homework. HAHAHA” “Stevie” all the girls yelled in rage, “you
get to do all the homework now because you wasted our time when we could have
been studying!” cried Marit. As mad as the girls were they were just glad they were
able to navigate the library successfully and that their dear friend Stevie was
alright.
